cores de janeiro

The collaboration between photographer Helena Cebrian and designer Bernardo Gomes came from a long friendship that fed the desire to work together. Neighbours, both living in Rio de Janeiro, a city in which its visual richness brings emotions because of its diversity, was the main symbol and theme of the development of this project.

In the face of a political dystopia, this piece claims the public space as the own body of who populates it. The city, this time, is in its favor, complementing the skin. A homage to the carioca culture: a dystopian tropical paradise.

A selection of photographs printed on fabrics gave birth to eleven pieces. It is possible to identify details of the natural landscape and culture of the city within the prints, such as the classic mountain that illustrates the Ipanema Beach, the caipirinha, the Brazil flag, and the streets of saara. To look at these pieces is to look at the scenes of who lives this routine.
