a bandeira é nossa

The series A Bandeira é Nossa emerges from a desire to reclaim the symbolism of Brazil’s national flag at a time when its meaning had been reshaped within a polarized political context that Helena does not identify with. Through this body of work, she reinterprets the flag across multiple mediums, including textiles, found objects, and even hair, creating a tactile and layered exploration of identity, belonging, and resistance. The series reflects on the flag as both a cultural emblem and a contested symbol, proposing a renewed, personal, and collective understanding of what it represents.

A series celebrating the Brazilian flag, strongly against Jair Bolsonaro’s misusage of the same.
